Our story

A living tradition,
warmly shared.

Seishinkan Aikido was founded in 1998 by Jong Kong Min and Colin Jarraw. From its beginning, the dojo has been a place for careful study, friendship and growth through the practice of Aikido.

Dojo leadership

The current dojo-cho of Seishinkan Aikido is Reuben Yap (5th Dan).

He is assisted by Jack Chong Wan Fung (3rd Dan), Desmond Andrew (2nd Dan) and Teguh Yuwono Pratiknyo (2nd Dan).

What is Aikido?

A martial way
for inner growth.

Aikido is a modern Japanese budo—a martial way that develops body, mind and character through disciplined practice. Rather than measuring progress through competition, students learn to remain composed, work respectfully with a partner and cultivate the strength to overcome their own fear, tension and ego.

Its techniques use natural, circular movement to lead an attack off balance, then resolve it through throws, joint controls or pins. Instead of meeting force with force, practitioners learn to blend with movement and redirect momentum without unnecessary conflict. Drawing on Daitō-ryū Aiki-jūjutsu and traditional Japanese swordsmanship, Aikido carries that heritage in its posture, distance and use of the hands.

Seishinkan is an affiliated dojo of Akademi Aikido, under the technical direction of Jun Yamada Shihan, 8th Dan. This connection guides our technical standards and keeps our practice rooted in the Aikikai tradition.
